Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become an OnStar Member?

To become an OnStar Member, you must simply purchase an OnStar equipped Chevrolet, GMC or Cadillac vehicle, accept the OnStar User Terms and Privacy Statement during the New Member onboarding process and activate your 10 years of Standard Connectivity free of cost. Post the trial, you can choose a subscription plan to remain a Member.

Why do I need to complete onboarding?

Completing the customer onboarding process is an important step that allows us to set-up your new vehicle account for the Owner Center and to activate and manage your OnStar Connected Services and Data subscription. This way, you will be able to access your vehicle-related accounts on both of our platforms: Owner Center and the myChevrolet, myGMC or myCadillac Mobile App*, using one single email address as your user ID. It also introduces you to many of your vehicle’s services. OnStar services, will not work until you have been onboarded and accepted terms & conditions and the privacy statement. Note: The statutory eCall emergency call function in UAE, for applicable vehicles, does not require you to onboard for OnStar services.

What happens if I do not complete the onboarding?

Completing the onboarding process activates the OnStar hardware and ensures your new vehicle account is fully set up. It also allows you to access all the services to start your trial, including the 10 years of Standard Connectivity*. If you do not complete it, you will miss out on the OnStar trial and the benefits of this Membership experience and vehicle personalization opportunities. Ultimately, it helps create a better overall ownership experience through our products and services.

Are there different types of Membership tiers?

No. All OnStar customers are Members. The Member service benefits will vary based on the plan you are in: Standard Connect, Protect*, Connect*, Protect & Connect Bundle* and Wi-Fi Plans* have varying levels of service.

How long can I stay as an active OnStar Member?

You are an active OnStar Member if you’re in a trial or subscribed to an active plan. Standard Connect* is available for a period of 10 years from warranty start date, once activated.

Can you transfer your Member benefits to someone else?

No. Paid plan Member benefits are not transferable. The 10 years standard connectivity services travel with the vehicle. However, in the event you sell your vehicle, you have to ensure that you offboard. The new owner may activate OnStar, enjoy the remaining years of Standard Connect and become a Member by starting an OnStar subscription plan.
